Model Sheets!

I created some characters (or rather victims) for my upcoming 682 animation. I felt the 3 class D characters in my previous animation were far too generic and shallow, and didn’t have any good character design about them.

So I decided to really push the envelope and create 5 farmers who unfortunately lie in 682’s path of destruction. The reason I chose farmers is because of a small excerpt from an interview Dr. ██████ had with 682.

Dr. ██████: Now, why did you kill those farmers?”

There’s a lot of notes on how to draw the character’s and what rules to break or not break. I had played with the idea of gathering a team of animators for the project, but have since decided it’s best to do it solo, since I am not entirely confident on my ability to keep a group of people motivated and active over the interwebs.

Also, if you’re reading this, please leave a comment! I love to get questions and comments and would appreciate any feedback on what you’ve seen so far!

Thanks for sticking with me and keep your eyes peeled for more!

Them bones, them bones, them dry bones

While trying to design SCP-682 initially, I realized I was not going to be able to animate him realistically without developing some kind of underlying structure (me trying to sound smart, i.e. skeleton). So I took a lot of similair animals, focusing mostly on dinosaurs, crocodiles, aligators, and large cats such as lions and tigers. Here’s some of the skeletons I drew in that process. Most of the croc and gator skeletons come from google images, but the lion skeleton comes from a great book called Animal Anatomy for Artists. It’s a great book that not only gives muscle and skeletal structure, but also shows how the joints move and turn. Check it out!

P.S. That skull turnaround image is SCP 682. Stay tuned for much much more!

Character sketches

Currently, I’m working on a sequel to the SCP 173 animation I created in 2009.

You can view that animation on Newgrounds and Youtube.

I am planning on doing a followup animation for SCP 682. I’ve been working on it off and on for about a year now. I’ve done a lot of drawings for it, a LOT. I plan to release some of them, in no chronological order, on this blog. Many people have been asking me through e-mail and youtube for this sequel so I hope this helps ease the wait.

Here are some character sketches I made. I was trying to create my victims, and I found 5 good ones. I have the model sheets for them made already, but for know I’ll just post some of the progress sketches. Hope you like them!

New blog!

Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Coleman Surratt and I am an independent animator and cartoonist. This blog functions more or less for me to post progress on whatever I am working on, and to hopefully garner interest for those projects. So if you like irregular updates, poor page formatting, and general mediocrity then stick around I have that in spades!
